Jones and Cane ecommerce site in the bag!

With over 300 individually weighed, photographed and described packaging products, Jones and Cane’s new site was a while in the making. It features configurable products such as these 4 different sizes of rubber gloves shown as one item, but with each product individually tracked. Related products such as these wire ties that are linked to their wire tie components.

The homepage features a dynamic product widget, a four frame script.aculo.us slideshow – showing key categories and products and packaging by industry sections. The packaging by industry products page will hopefully enable less packaging savvy visitors to find the items they need.

Jones and Cane Packaging also has the usual great Magento ecommerce features such as product comparison, wishlists, newsletters and auto suggestive site search. The site also uses Google analytics, Google sitemap and Google Merchant Centre/ Google Base. Google Base is still very US focused and not really configurable for UK tax and shipping yet. So it redirects to the product page rather than acting as a standalone checkout product page.

Html email design

Html email design - Stockyoyo.com

Designing html emails is always a bit of a throwback to the old days, with tables and inline styles the foundation of email design. Css can be added for link and body declarations but email clients are a varied bunch and double declaring things like font sizes (<font face=”arial” color=”#333333″ size=”2″ style=”font-size:13px; line-height:18px;”>) is the only way to get an email to display universally in the same manner. Adobe’s Dreamweaver is a great tool for html email design as it handles table layouts very well.

I usually set the main table width as 750px, try to use padding rather than spacer gifs and make sure no links are relative. It’s also important to try and create a structure that keeps the mail readable if the user’s inbox blocks images by default, so informative alt tags are again important. Spam and unsubscribe notices are a must, i’d also recommend having a weblink as an html webpage version has already been created, so it’s just a case of moving it onto the server.

Here’s an example I produced for Stockyoyo.com, which uses xslt and html to produce dynamic emails tailored to your share rating performance for that week.
