Magazine Website Design

Back Issues are available for users who have come directly from the members area. Visitors that don’t have the correct referral information are directed to the member sign up page.

Instructions were created for the client on how to compress, upload and edit new issues of the magazine. Magazines are displayed by year published.

PDF versions of each edition

PDF versions of each edition are compressed for online use and converted into a 3D FlipBook. The 3D FlipBook limits downloading and print functionality. The issues are accessible on mobiles, tablets and desktop.

Each edition can be viewed in a traditional two page spread or in a single page column. Optional page turn animation, zoom, bookmarks and page anchors are also available.

The site uses a simplified header and footer section, with few links. This reduces the risk of potential referral problems as a user’s browser can lose track of where it has previously been, if too many pages are visited.

Referrer URL limitations

Referrer URLs are only really helpful when used with a session cookie to stop the referrer being lost when clicking around the site. However we discovered that session cookies only register after a page reload. We created a custom function that redirects visitors without a match to the member area referrer to the member sign up page. The code only applies to the frontend of the site so admin can still be accessed.
